Some things never change in recording sessions, like the requirement for lots of tea and coffee throughout the day. However, some things definitely do, such as positioning and layout of musicians and the way we record them within a studio or space.
Every studio requires a different set up and every set up is different depending on the instruments used. Every set up is also different depending on the musicians you use, remembering this is the key to a good recording.
For Perspective, we tried a very different set up for the instruments in the room and I love the results. I wanted to stay away from the traditional way that orchestras are positioned and to think more about the final sound to the listeners and what could be the most satisfying sound to hear whether through headphones, sound systems or mobile devices.
